Conference and Protest in Acco
On Friday 29.06 at noon, Zalul,
together with the Municipality of Acco, The Green Cell of Acco and additional
organizations convened with residents to rescue the gulf of Acco.
The convention, which took place on
Crimson Beach in Acco, was part of Zalul's
program of operative action in the rescue of the gulf.
For a long time now, the coastal
swimming beaches of Acco have been closed in the aftermath of discharged urban
industrial sewage to the gulf via the Naaman river and various pipelines. As a
result, inhabitants of Acco and its surrounds have been denied their right to swim
in the beaches of their city.
Zalul, the Municipality
of Acco and additional organizations,
including: The Green Cell, the
Council of Urban Youth, Contrary on Contrary, Fisherman Organization
of Acco and the Urban Kibbutz in Acco, convened with residents on Crimson Beach in order to protest and to rescue the
coastal beaches in the city.
The
conference ended with a protest march in the southern entrance to the city.
According to organizers, about 250 residents
of Acco and the surrounding area participated in the event.
Said Ezer Fishler, manager of the campaign
for Zalul: "The summer is already here, and coastal beaches throughout the
country are filled with people looking for refreshment. Only the inhabitants of Acco must avoid the
possibility of enjoying the natural resource of their city. The Gulf of Acco is not a basin for the sewage of
the north! Area inhabitants are the victims of severe oversight. It seems at
times that the proportion of environmental quality for inhabitants of the
periphery is minimal in the relation to the inhabitants of the center, and gulf
Acco is a living example. The residents of Acco are fed up from drying out in
the sun, and therefore, in the convention of residents we demanded on their
behalf to give back the sea!"
