"Diving for a Clean Port of Jaffa"

On Friday, November 11, Zalul Environmental Association, the Jaffa Port Authority, the "Clean Beach" program of the Ministry of the Environment and the Nature Reserves and Parks Authority, Jaffa Sea Scouts, Kayak for All, and the diving club "Jerusalem Divers" held an underwater clean up at the Jaffa Port.

As part of the project to develop the Jaffa harbor, the Jaffa Port Authority initiated an underwater clean-up project. Zalul Environmental Association, the "Clean Beach" program of the Ministry of the Environment and the Nature Reserves and Parks Authority, Jaffa Sea Scouts, Kayak for All, and the diving club "Jerusalem Divers" all participated in the underwater clean-up efforts..

The underwater diving operation included dozens of volunteers – Jewish and Arab – taking part in the clean up of the underwater garbage of the Jaffa Port that has accumulated in the past several years.

The divers who managed to dive in very little underwater visibility pulled out of the water every thing from old shopping carts, a tractor wheel, a broken toilet and an old missile head.

The cleaning operation is the first step in the rehabilitation process of the port and sends a message for cleaner shorelines and the safekeeping of the character of this unique fishing port.
