What should be done with the sewage sludge? The permit to discharge sewage to the sea that was issued to Dan Cities Association for Sewage at the end of 2002, stipulates specific instructions regarding discharging sewage sludge to the sea. The Dan Cities Association is required, under these stipulations, to establish “disposition to collect heavy metals (especially from small plants) within the locality of the municipalities that contribute sewage to the Dan Cities Association

The Big Bang
January 28th 2003 marked the biggest ecological disaster in the history of Yaffo and Tel Aviv beach. The sewage pipeline of the Dan Regional Association burst in Yaffo, flooding Aza Street with raw sewage. The association activated the emergency outfalls in north Tel Aviv and by the Dolfinarium beach, discharging 200,000 cubic meters (52,800,000 gallons) of raw sewage a day into the sea for two weeks straight. As a result of this neglect, 3.4 million cubic meters (897,600,000 gallons) of sewage sludge was discharged into the sea each day.
