About six months ago Zalul announced our campaign, "Returning Life to Rivers", which is aimed at bringing an end to pollution, other waste streams and land pollutants, and enabling the government to bring Israel's rivers back to life. The campaign focuses on several rivers, including the Hadera River, the Herod and Southern Jordan River, the Lachish River and others.

Zalul is tremendously proud to announce to a major success in the campaign to save the Lachish River. After three years of campaigning by Zalul in the city of Ashdod to rescue the Lachish Zalul stood alongside the Mayor of Ashdod, Dr. Yechiel Lasri, at a press conference on July 6, 2009, to announce the opening of the river to water recreation.

In a special news feature on river pollution in Israel, celebrity newscaster Danny Kushmaro interviewed Zalul's National Campaign Director Ezer Fischler about the problems facing the Lachish River in Ashdod, specifically the extremely high levels of pollution that are discharged in the river daily.

In the polling done by Zalul Environmental Association during the past month in Ashdod shopping malls, 100% of voters called for the rescue of the Lachish River!

On January 24, 2008, Zalul Environmental Association announced a new round of campaigning for the Lachish River at a press conference in Ashdod. The campaign's focus is on Mayor Zvi Zilker, who is also the chairman of the river's rehabilitation committee.
